Texas troopers will have a beefed-up presence for a two-week period, which began on December 19th and will run until January 2nd.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that it will increase DWI patrols during the 15-day stretch, which includes both the Christmas and New Year holidays — troopers will be focusing on DWI patrols within “high-risk locations.”

It’s very important if you have plans during the holiday season and they involve alcohol, have a designated driver on-hand or use a transportation service.

For those who will be driving, take extra precautions to ensure the safety of you and others, which include buckling up, refraining from texting, not driving while fatigued, keeping both hands on the wheel and avoiding distractions while driving.

During the 2013 holiday enforcement period, DPS troopers made 1,505 DWI arrests, issued nearly 25,000 speeding citations, and made 797 felony arrests.

Don’t be another one of those statistics! A special funding grant to DPS has enabled the increased trooper presence, so please be extra-cautious while on the roadways this season.
